At Boiler Guide, we're proudly supporting Gas Safety Week 2019.
Gas Safety Week is returning for its 8th year in 2019 and takes place between the 16th and 22nd September.
This year, we're celebrating Gas Safety Week by offering a free downloadable Gas Safety Squad comic to promote gas safety for kids.
Joining Gas Safe Hero, Doug, in 2019 is the Gas Safety Squad, a team of Gas Safe registered engineers here to teach kids all about gas safety.
The Gas Safety Squad all feature in our Gas Safety Squad comic, a downloadable book that includes everything your child needs to become part of the Gas Safety Squad.
We're so passionate about spreading the important message of gas safety that we're also going to be delivering our Gas Safety Squad comic to some primary schools in Leicestershire, where the Boiler Guide team is based.

Importance of gas safety
A poorly maintained gas appliance can lead to, fires and even explosions, so staying safe is highly important.
A particular concern is carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning, a colourless, odourless and tasteless gas that causes around 50 deaths in the UK every year. Carbon monoxide is produced as boilers burn gas to produce central heating and hot water.
A boiler that's operating safely will send the carbon monoxide out of the flue pipe and into the atmosphere. When it comes to unsafe units, this lethal gas could leak into the home and cause harm to everyone in it – one of the many reasons why an annual service of your gas boiler is essential.
How to stay gas safe
Gas Safety Week might only come around once a year but it's important to stay gas safe all year round. Here are some tips on how to keep your home gas safe:
- Arrange an annual service of your gas appliances by a Gas Safe registered engineer
- Check that the engineer you hire is on the Gas Safe Register online by visiting GasSafeRegister.co.uk or calling 0800 408 5500.
- Ask to see the heating engineer's Gas Safe ID when they arrive at your property
- Check for signs that the gas appliance isn't working: orange/yellow flame, condensation forming in the room or the pilot light keeps going out – if you spot any of these signs contact a Gas Safe registered engineer.
- Install a carbon monoxide alarm near your boiler which will go off when a leak is detected.
- Be able to recognise the signs of carbon monoxide poisoning
Having your gas boiler serviced once every 12 months by a Gas Safe registered engineer is a legal requirement that will keep your home safe. If your boiler hasn't been serviced, you can get a free gas boiler service quote from a Gas Safe registered engineer in your local area using Boiler Guide.
